Sonia V's Cornerstone Scoop
I don't think I could have more dirt on my body
if I jumped into a mud wrestling pit. I'll be
blowing black boogers for weeks to come till
it's all out of my system. The spiders and
cockroaches in my tent each night were a welcomed
and unexpected pleasure and gave me plenty of
protein for the long week I endured.
Especially the one that crawled across my face
and the one that got cold toes and had to join
me in my sleeping bag.
Aside of those exciting experiences, here's some
highlights of my week at Cornerstone Fest 2005!
MY BAND ROCKED! I luv these guys. I've named
them "The B-side Boys" on account of all their
names having "B" in it! Make sure to check
out more of all my personal pics as well as my
Cornerstone Band page to find out more about
these Dudes, plus all the other band pics I
shot for The Indie Rock Show press coverage
at the links provided at the bottom of
this page!!
Signet:
One of my favorite bands of all time and a
#1 charter on The Indie Rock Show is Signet
who also played the Fatcalf Stage with me.
They put on a great show and had the crowd
moshing. Yes, I did get in on that action
and did a stage dive during their set too,
but the funnest part for me was the little
cameo duet lead singer Alfred Porter
let me share during "The Touch" which held the
#1 spot on The Indie Rock Show several weeks
this year. During our time meeting
our friends and fans at the merch tent,
Alfred and I had a contest to out-promote
each other's CD but he won when he got
a kid to buy my CD and get his for free.
Cheater. Signet now has a brand new CD
available and if you didn't get your own
autographed copy at the fest,
YOU MUST CHECK OUT THIS AWESOME CD
produced with Jesse Sprinkle of Dead Poetic
(Poor Old Lu/Deamon Hunter)Please check out
these awesome rockers at www.signetplanet.com
Speaking of my friend Jesse Sprinkle,
Dead Poetic totally rocked the Encore Stage
and I got my own backstage view. Jesse also
hung out with me at the Damos merch table where
his two solo CD's were available. They were an
awesome backdrop for my 20 hour drive back home
to Florida. You gotta get these CD's!
Heavily influenced by Daniel Amos and
Terry Taylor's early works. Ok, so like
walking around with Jesse at Cornerstone is
like being flogged by the Paparazzi, but I do
have to say the highlight of my week was when
we were walking out of the merch tent together
and some kid stopped us and said
"You guys are really great!"
(assuming Jesse who was holding his drum
sticks at the time was my drummer) and then
looked at me and said "You're a really great
singer!" - Wow! Somebody who actually knew
who I was and not Jesse! Apparently that
cool kid with great taste in music
attended my show! I guess it's hard to
forget my "crazy red hair" and all that
other stuff that raises eyebrows.
All in all, I had fun rockin' the
Fatcalf stage and apparently was the only
female rocker for the entire week on that
stage! Thanks to everybody who came out to
the show and had a fun time rockin' with me!
AIR Glory - What is "Air Glory" you ask?
Basically it's this big crane that sits
20 stories high that hoists you up in a what
looks like a sumo wrestler/turtle suit held by a
bungy cord, and then when you pull the cord,
you fly to meet your maker "in Gloryland"
- literally have your life flash
before your eyes...did that with my drummer
Matthew Burgess - we were the only daring ones
in the bunch but I must say Matthew grabbed
onto my arm rather tightly for the
entire swing through the sky. Glad I
could be there for ya wild monkey boy.
Flatfoot 56 - rockin' freaks at their best
- mohawks, leather, chains and spikes and many
tattoos & piercings in the crowd of their
audience - the only band that can get a true
mosh pit going and have the crowd going
completely insane with thrash celtic punk
and still end in a crowd of freaks
worshipping at the top of their lungs
accompanied by bagpipes to Amazing Grace.
By the way,, thanks FF56 for the front-stage
experience to your set - drummer I couldn't
have asked for more of your sweat all over my
face during your solo plus enjoyed those kicks
in the face and head from the moshers - it was
rad and yes, it left a mark -
- one I'm glad for the experience.
Kurios - One of my other Damos comrades was
Kurios who also rocked the Fatcalf stage along
with Fusco, Trump Dawgs, Million Time Winner &
Bastian who won the New Band Showcase spot!
Kurios has held the #1 spot on The Indie Rock
Show for, oh, it's going on several months now
and I'd have to go back and count to really
tell you how long, but it's a really long
time! And justified cuz they really know
how to get their fans moving and
voting for them with their "When all is
Said and Done" single currently spinning
on the IRS. It was awesome to hear these
guys live and they are just as awesome
live as the recording!
Press pass - definitely a great asset to
have - check out some of the pics of the
awesome bands and some from right up close
on stage - thanks J. (Apologetix)
for the great wardrobe changes in your
set - check out his M&M/Tom Green Get-up for
the Slim Shady parody.
ApologetiX - One of the great advantages to
having my Indie Rock Show press pass was
getting backstage to a lot of the artists
performances and getting to hang with them
and interview them. My friend J. Jackson,
Lead singer of the ApologetiX is always
crazy, and probably would do just about
anything on stage including dress up in
various costumes. This is the ApologetiX
first year playing a big stage at
Cornerstone and I got to see them pack
out the Rock For Life stage firsthand.
After having this performance packing
out the tent to overflowing, I hope
that Cornerstone gets them
booked on the main stage for next year!
These guys now have another new radio single
out which is the Jet parody "Are you
Gonna be Ike's Girl" (Are you gonna be my girl).
JC's Mom previously hit #1 on the National
Alternative/Modern Rock Charts and I'm hoping
to see them hold that spot with this one too.
Please check out my awesome crazy rock friends
at www.apologetiX.com
Ken Tucker of the Back Porch Pilgrims -
Look who stopped by just before his set
on the Rock for Life Stage! Ken Tucker
(former guitarist for Larry Norman and
Moreover's New Trick) came by to say hi
and I was able to catch his awesome new
set of music from his new CD with The
Back Porch Pilgrims just before the
ApologetiX set. Blues at it's best.
Divine Design Tattoos: Thanks to the
tattoo guys at Divine Design for the rockin'
Henna Tattoos who sat across from our
merch booth - ya rock! Check out Divine Design
next time you're at the fest if ya missed them.
Very many hours of entertainment watching
them tattoo themselves over their entire
bodies during the course of the fest.
All in all, it was a great week but I was glad
to finally sit down on a real, clean toilet
after a week of squatting in those lovely
port-a-potties and finally wash the creatures
out of my hair that had taken habitat for the
week.
A special thanks to The Damos Agency for
dragging all us indie rockers up to Cstone
and putting out great radio promotion for us
all, and all the folks who put on the great
Fatcalf Stage this year.
