Peta: News Releases (direct link) SONIA VANNEST HAS ‘A THING OR 2’ TO SAY ABOUT VEGETARIANISM IN EXCLUSIVE PETA2 INTERVIEW Christian-Music Phenom Packs New CD With Special PETA Message, Talks About Showing Compassion for Animals For Immediate Release: May 24, 2005 Contact: Marci Hansen 757-622-7382 Norfolk, Va. — Still riding high on the accolades for her February release, a thing or 2, and the success of her internationally syndicated radio program, The Indie Rock Show, Christian artist and vegetarian Sonia Vannest wants to deliver positive messages that promote kindness toward animals. That’s why Sonia asked peta2—PETA’s youth-focused division—to send her 2,000 stickers showing a baby chicken with the tagline "Jesus Loves Me, Too" to insert in her CDs, offered two songs to peta2Radio, and gave an exclusive interview on peta2.com. Why the stickers? "It’s a nudge for people to check it out for themselves and become informed about the mistreatment of animals," says Sonia, whose edgy, unique sound and stellar songwriting skills have earned her high praise from VH1, which named her one of the top "must-hear" artists in the country. The title song from her new CD went to number one on the national alternative/modern rock chart. "I think God makes it pretty clear that His original plan for us was to be responsible for and take care of the Earth and the animals on it," says Sonia, who posts on her Web site, "Sonia V is a vegetarian and supporter of peta2." "But it’s pretty clear that we don’t need to eat meat for nutrition, because everything we need is provided for us on the green Earth." Sonia joins fellow Christian rockers Emery, Further Seems Forever, Anberlin, and Mae in teaming up with PETA to inspire kids to challenge outdated, cruel attitudes about animals. Also featured on peta2.com are other celebrity interviews, message boards, edgy merchandise, downloadable voice-mail recordings, and chances to win great prizes like free concert tickets, CDs, and more. The "Jesus Loves Me, Too" sticker is attached. For more information and to read Sonia’s interview, please visit peta2.com.
